So, I blinked and it's May. I didn't intend to take a break, but it happened. I have been creating so very many things in the offline world (which is a refreshing break from the usual cause of my untintended hiatiuses)! Since my last post I've played many gigs, played two wonderful festivals, launched a new project with a great friend. I've also written a few songs, shot many photos and videos! This post is going to be a rambly catch up type thing, so be prepared for disjointed thoughts and tangents.
I'm going to start my ramble with some thoughts about a festival I played a couple of weekends ago: St Albans Folk Festival. It's this small folk festival almost two hours from where I live. There are paddocks, and horses, farms, the river, the oldest pub in Australia (that's always been a pub) and most importantly, no reception. It's a really magic place. This is my second time at the festival, and I played with the button collective. A rained out cancelled version of the festival a few years ago is where I met and joined this band (so to say I got mad soppy is a bit of an understatement). The moon was also full, adding to the magic late night folk jams.
(next thing) Surprise surprise, I started a new music project with a friend of mine. We're called Twin Willows, and for now we're doing the duo-y cover-y thing. We've been releasing videos for a month now, and the response has been positive (more positive than I anticipated!) This is us if you're interested :P
I've been doing so many gigs with my solo stuff. It's been very very fun. I've also kind of been getting my stuff together. I'm halfway through booking a tour, and have slowly been structuring such adult things as "planning videos ahead" and "social media plans" and "getting myself a booking agent". It's really hard to stay on top of all my work, and often I don't manage it, BUT the more I chip away at the pile, the less out of hand it's becoming :) Here's my latest Emerald Ruby video BTW! I've been sitting on this arrangement for a little while, and it's nice to finally have it in a recorded medium!
I'm not going to lie, it's been a hard few weeks, but somehow I've started to develop *shock horror* healthy coping mechanisms. (If you remember back to the beginning of this year, I had one resolution: Don't beat yourself up over the work you didn't manage to do. I'M REALLY EXCITED BECAUSE I'VE MANAGED TO MOSTLY STICK TO IT!)
Anyway, hopefully the next time I'll blink not so much time will have passed ;P.
