Let me tell you about some Folksy Dreams.

If you’ve hung around my social media recently, you would have noticed I’ve just released a new EP, specifically Folksy Dreams Volume 2. This is a collection of 4 flute focused folk tunes inspired by spring. Each one has a tiny tale and I’d love to tell you all about them!
I also have a few listening recommendations featuring releases you may enjoy if you’ve enjoyed the Folksy Dreams Series.

Spring Brings the Clover

When the chill of winter dissipates, I see the clover usurp the green grass’s dominance. Small white flowers sprout tall and proud, bringing the bees who share their song. This slow jig is an ode to this annual tradition offered by the warmth of spring. The sheet music is available HERE for a free download.

Pottering in the Garden

I have recently discovered the mediative joys of gardening, transforming a number of weed ridden garden beds into edible eden’s through the power of love, elbow grease and care (with a little help from the la Nina weather patterns). As I nurture my garden, it nutures me, clearing restless energy and providing fresh food to snack upon.

A Love Letter for My Pumpkin Friend

A pumpkin rescued from the side of a road and another grown from lovingly tilled soil befriended two lovely humans in 2021. These small orange gourds bestowed friendship unto these humans, brief but powerful. Adventures were had until they could be had no longer, and to the soil they returned.

Cutting Words, A Whistful Tone

Haiku - short form poetry originating in Japan. This formula for syllabic simplicity was once shared, accompanying international travellers or their journeys abroad. Eventually the concept landed in an Australian writing syllabus, allowing me to experience the art form. One calm day, a thought crossed my mind, “What would a haiku sound like as a folk tune?”. I’ve slowly developed this form, 3 sections beginning in 5, drifting to 7 before returning to 5 as an exercise in complicated simplicity.

Sometimes I happen across an artist and retroactively decide that they’ve been an early influence in my writing - Erza Glatt, with his gentle meandering melodies and deep dreamy lyrics is one such artist. The first time I heard his music I was struck by the thought “this is what I’ve always wanted to sound like, I just haven’t heard it until now”

This 9 track collage of instrumental texture, synthetic but soulful synths and infectious laughter has singlehandedly motivated me through the intense tangle of administration I’ve been taming for the last month. I needed music without words with a feeling that’s “just right” to quiet my brain for long enough to do the thing. This album hit the spot!

FINANCIAL REALISM SEGMENT!

I’m trying to be more open about my finances/the time/money and energy that goes into this creative work. I’ve reached a point where I no longer have the energy to work creatively and work a day job. Many hours of labour go into a post like this - I sewed the pants, which took me a day, the photos took 1 hour to shoot, 3 hours to edit/upload.

Writing this post in particular took 1 hour, and the social media management and promotion takes an additional hour. my website is with Squarespace which also costs $$

If you’d like to support my endeavour to make this sort of work my “real job” (this includes my music and upcoming sewing videos) you can do so for the price of a coffee by using the form to your left. If you’d like to support me AND get a thing in return for your $$, consider buying my music on BANDCAMP or hopping over to my ONLINE STORE and buying a print, bow, music ETC :)

Big thanks to my regular Ko-Fi Supporter Gemma! If you’d like to join her in my super exclusive community and support my art for $5 a month, click over to my Ko Fi Page! You’ll get access to videos and blog posts early, and I’ll thankyou (like this!) when I release the things.
