Wooden Shorts

wpid-pict_20150404_175318.jpg It is very very cold down on the South Coast. I'm somewhat regretting not looking up the weather before I packed, because I would have packed way more knee high socks, and way more jackets.

Apart from being cold, it's very chill down here. Katherine and I checked out the shops today, then spent the second half of the day in the cabin for Dad's belated birthday lunch. We lots of yummy food, played a sick dice game called Rory's Story Cubes. (I bought a basic pack, and will be purchasing expansions in a few days!)

Unfortunately even though I'm on holidays I still have to do uni work/ flute practice /adminny stuff for V shapes. I'm planning on having a big work day tomorrow :s so yeah.

Heart Pinafore.

Remember when I talked about having an epic sewing night a couple of posts ago, and being all "I'll put the other thing up in a few days"? Well, here is the other thing I made!

That's right! It's a heart shaped pinafore! It was pretty simple to put together, but pretty time consuming to complete (I do all my gathering by hand because I haven't bought a gather foot for my sewing machine)

Believe it or not, this pinafore is actually super hard to style, like to the point where I had to actually buy a blouse specifically to wear with it. I used white lace on the pinafore, and a very white based busy print. This means that the pinafore doesn't go with any of my off white or black blouses. It also doesn't go with my green blouse due to the different greens used in the print. I own one white shirt that kinda sorta goes with it but due to the cut, it tends to billow out at the sides and needs to be constantly adjusted.

So yeah, this is what I wore to my bands gig at the rhythm hut last night! It was a really great concert, and really fun (despite the technical difficulties we had at the start).

I'm a bit dead now though. I played flute pretty much all day yesterday.

A Whale of a time

wpid-pict_20150219_174844.jpg I had a massive sewing day on Wednesday this week. Apart from running errands and teaching, I pretty much sewed without a break from 10 am through to 1am the next day. I made two items of clothing; the whale skirt I wore yesterday, and another item of clothing which you'll get to see tomorrow!

My sewing binge was spurred on by my excitement about getting to teach at a new school. I wanted something new and fun to wear. I think a whale skirt with heart pockets covers all those bases!

After work yesterday I met up with 4/5ths of my band for some radio interviews which was pretty exciting. We recorded one with the local ABC for this morning, and we recorded one with Coast fm for tomorrow morning. We've not done radio as a band before, but it was pretty fun.

One last thing! If you're in Sydney this evening, you should totally come to our gig with Baltic Barmitzvah at Mr Falcons in Glebe! We've recently been working with a new member, and this will be his first big gig with us :D

wpid-20150124_180527.jpg I'm going to keep this one super short for two reasons: 1) I didn't get dresses until 3pm and 2) Shoddy phone photos because I didn't have time to shoot properly before leaving the house (so I got dad to man my phone camera after we went out for dinner this evening)

As a celebration of the last Saturday of my holidays I hit the sewing machine and created these wooden shorts. They took me about 4 hours to sew, and I got them finished just in time for this evenings activities.

The evening started with dinner with my parents, and ended with iceskating with a small group of friends. (It was super fun to catch up with everyone, especially seeing as I've been super hermit.)

As far as the shorts go, I'm really enjoying the heart pockets, and I think I'll be sewing them onto things more frequently!
