I have some exciting music related news! I bought a bass flute :D

head

"What is a Bass Flute?" I hear you ask. To begin with, it looks like this:  12341410_10154389455134606_5918383108227072722_n

It plays a 3 octave range from the C below middle C, to the C two ledger lines above the treble stave (making it sit exactly an octave below the regular C flute we all know and love) The Bass flute I purchased is made by Trevor James, and it's so freaking  pretty.

Hands in front

I just wish I could play it properly. It's flute shaped, and the embouchure looks similar, and your fingering remains the same, but it's a whole new kettle of fish. I've only just worked out how to hold it properly :s

More details

Air support is very different as well, as it the use of the embouchure. It's really odd being terrible at playing a flute. But it's really fun learning a related instrument.

to the side

This is what I wore yesterday when I had some jammy fun times with a friend of mine. It was really hot, so I opted for airy, light clothes which helped to keep me relatively cool.

Hand on hip

I made these skorts over a year ago, and I've not worn them at all this year. I actually forgot how awesome they are to wear. I've got to make some changes to the pattern before I can sew a new set (Totally going to make them in full leg length as well!).

They're basically two half circles with extra bits... Gah, I'll just have to stop being lazy and make a tutorial...

shoes There comes a point in every young adults life where they look into moving out of their parents home because living there doesn't make sense anymore. I've reached that point, and as well as being a little scary, It's a big fat reminder that yes, despite my appearance and lifestyle, I am in fact an adult.

Rohan and I have started viewing and applying for houses. I may be a little bit excited.  The area we're looking at is pretty close to home, it's just significantly closer to public transport, making my life a whole lot easier (and my transport costs wayyy cheaper)

without jacket

I've been living in the same house for 20 years, so this whole packing up your life and moving thing is a foreign concept for me. It'll be fun though. I'm currently living on an opposite sleep schedule to my parents (They wake up in the wee hours of the morning to go to work, and I come back in the wee hours of the morning returning home from work), so this move will make life easier for everyone.

This is what I wore on Monday. I don't tend to wear this skirt often. I'm not sure why, but it's super comfy, and I'll definitely be wearing it more often.  It's made from a chiffon type fabric with really tight single pleats. You can't see it super well from the photos (I did take detail shots, but I failed at focusing the camera :s) but this skirt is covered in tiny white apples with purple leaves.

One thing I'm really not looking forward to about moving out is I won't be able to take my dogs with me. Out of all of the houses we're looking at viewing (I think there were about 10 or 15 in our price range) there was one that might consider pets, and even if the others allowed pets, they were mostly flats. It wouldn't be fair to move my doggies from having a big backyard to maybe a tiny balcony. I'll still be able to visit them, but it won't be the same.

Pom pom, politics and progressive values

shoes I'm having trouble typing my thoughts in detail, so I'll just give you all a TLDR: The Australian government is actively trying to destroy any form of equality Australia had, and it's making me sad and angry. I'm angry because I didn't vote for these people, but I'm stuck with their idiotic policies anyway, and I'm sad because I feel completely powerless to change anything. This government isn't listening to it's people, it's listening to those who will make them rich.

Anyway, I've taken to twitter in hopes as a form of protest/making Jen feel slightly less angry/sad. I'm using #thisisnotdemocracy. The aim is for me to tweet something intelligent at those in power every day in order to let them know that I am not ok with what they are doing. I would absolutely love it if others would join me.

Here's a list of Twitter accounts to get you started:

Tony Abbot: The Prime Minister/Minister for all sorts of things he shouldn't be sticking his nose in.

Julie Bishop: Deputy leader of the liberal party/ Minister for foreign affairs.

Christopher Pyne: Minister for Education

Peter Dutton: Minister for immigration and border protection

Greg Hunt: Minister for the environment

Scott Morrison: Minister for Social Services

Joe Hocky: Treasurer

On a lighter note, I spent my day writing music with Vanishing Shapes and painting. I'm really enjoying having time to be creative without having to worry about assignments. Anyway, I don't have anything else to say, so I'll just leave everyone with the rest of my photo's from today!

Somewhere, beyond the sea

wpid-pict_20150506_140315.jpg I know that I've been complaining about how early the sun has been setting recently, but this evening I have changed my view.

wpid-pict_20150506_140005.jpg

I forgot how lovely the light is during Autumn (It's soft and warm, not harsh and toasty like summer). I also forgot how beautiful the sun sets are (The sky turns into this wonderful pastel gradient)

wpid-pict_20150506_140158.jpg

Every time I make tentacle jewellery I feel like dressing in a sea creature sort of way. I felt like the whales on my skirt match the tentacles in a bottle perfectly. I also need to wear this shirt more. I bought it ages ago, but hardly ever wear it for some unknown reason. Anyway, after today I 'm totally going to wear it with all the things!

Foxes in fairyland

wpid-pict_20150505_164228.jpg I was talking to a friend the other day about how fast time appears to be moving at the moment ( For those of you who missed that conversation, time is moving extremely fast). My brain is still under the impression that it's February, despite the fact it's really really really not February.

wpid-pict_20150505_163215.jpg

It's actually kind of scary. Stuff that I planned at the beginning of the year is starting to happen now, and it feels as though every new plan I make is being ticked off mere hours from when it's finalised in my diary.

wpid-pict_20150505_163620.jpg

Apart from the whole time moving fast thing, I'm actually in a pretty great place. I've been painting and sculpting heaps lately, and making a ton of music (As well as writing new stuff with V shapes, I've been writing stuff on gameboy again and writing classically)

wpid-pict_20150505_163819.jpg

This is one of my creations from my sculpting session last night. I've not made a fox before, nor have I sculpted from a sketch before. I feel like the fox turned out pretty well. I also made a bunch of other stuff which will turn up on my blog in the next few days.

wpid-pict_20150505_163014.jpg

The one question I'm always asked about my jewellery is what material I sculpt with. I use white sculpyIII (which is a type of polymer clay. Really I could use any polymer clay, but this one comes in a bulk packet. I actually finished a packet last night. I'd had it for 4 years!) then paint and varnish once it's baked.
